# Trading halt

A trading halt freezes a US stock on every exchange at once. A news halt lets everyone read an announcement before anyone trades on it; a [limit up-limit down pause](https://mochatrade.com/learn/us-market-structure/how-us-stock-prices-form) stops a stock that runs to the edge of its band.
