Market breadth
Market breadth is how many stocks are taking part in a move: advancers against decliners, new highs against new lows, the equal-weight index against the normal one. A market-value-weighted index can rise on a few giants while 238 stocks hit a one-year low against 53 at a high. Breadth tells you whether the index you see is the market you own.
