How to Add Margin or Change Leverage on an Open Position

You can add margin to an open position at any time to lower your liquidation risk. You can't change leverage on margin already posted, but adding another order changes your effective leverage.

Prerequisites & Limits

  • An open position and enough available wallet balance.

  • Maximum additional margin equals your position's order value.

  • Effective leverage \= total position value ÷ total margin posted.

Step-by-Step Navigation

  1. Sign in at mochatrade.com, open Trade and go to the Positions tab.

  2. Click the position you want to manage.

  3. Click the pencil next to the position's margin, enter the amount to add and confirm.

  4. To change effective leverage instead, place another order on the same contract and direction.

Common Failures & Troubleshooting

  • Amount rejected when adding margin: You've gone over the maximum (your position's order value) or your available balance.

  • Leverage selector is locked on my open position: Leverage on posted margin can't be changed. Add a new order to adjust effective leverage.
